Davis Middle School students recently swept all three places in the local 2013 Optimist Essay Contest. Eighth-grader Addy Allegretti, right, was awarded first place in the contest. Eighth-grader Mary Kathryn Hutcheson and seventh-grader Aaron Mitchell earned second and third place recognitions, respectively. All three winners will be honored at a dinner sponsored by the Newton-Rockdale Optimist Club and will receive medals and certificates. Allegretti's essay has been forwarded to the Georgia Optimist District Competition in which she will compete with others throughout Georgia for a $2,500 college scholarship.
