LOGANVILLE --- The Rockdale boys track and field team won the Running With The Devils Invitational at Loganville High School last weekend, thanks to a pair of individual champions in Lawrence Crawford in the 100-meter run (10.77) and Chaz Mapp in the 800-meter run (2:07.05).
Newton, which finished a distant second, was led by Alex Grady, who won the 1,600 meters (4:37.47) and the 3,200 meters (9:59.78), and Duronte Carter, who won the 300-meter hurdles (40.20). The Rams also got a championship run from the 3,200 relay team (8:24.69).
Eastside finished fourth, getting individual titles from Jamal Hardge (first in the long jump at 22-01.25) and Darvelle Smith (first in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.80).
In girls action, Rockdale's Antwonete Thomas won the 1,600 meters in 5:35.23 and the 800 meters in 2:29.54, while Onesiha Clennon won the discus throw (101-07) to help the Bulldogs finish second to host Loganville.
Newton finished third, just three points back of Rockdale, thanks to Brianna Hayden, who won the triple jump (35-07.50) and 100 meters (12.74) and the title-winning 400- relay team (50.85).
Eastside was fifth, led by title winners Nylah Chavis (long jump, 5-02) and Dallas Worthy (400 meters, 58.07) and the 1,600 relay (4:10.92).
