Rockdale tennis has no trouble with Alcovy

The Rockdale tennis teams stayed unbeaten in region play by dominating local foe Alcovy on Wednesday, winning 5-0 in both girls and boys play.

The Bulldogs' top four singles players lost just two games as the top two girls players -- Summer Walker and Ciara Chesser -- each won 8-0 over Jordyn White and Trista Twiford, respectively. On the boys side, No. 1 Patrick Sanders defeated John Gammans 8-1, while No. 2 Trey Hull knocked off Stefen Kirk 8-1.

The girls completed the shutout with wins at No. 3 singles (Aliyah Byrd won 8-4 over Faith Cambrow), No. 1 doubles (Abby Bradford and Destiny Commodore defeated Brandie Weathersby and Tearra Gray 8-1) and No. 2 doubles (Kyia Havens and Sydney Norton bested Tori White and Morgan Mobley 9-8 with a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker).

In other boys matches, No. 3 singles player Logan Hull knocked off Hunter Aycox 8-1, the No. 1 doubles team of Abenet Adisu and Bruce Mitchell won 8-5 over Jordan Hexom and Clayton Anderson. Collin Shamley and Cameron Debro defeated Holden Miller and James Crane, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

With the victories, Rockdale moved to 3-0 in Region 2-AAAAAA play.

In another inter-county matchup, the Heritage tennis teams swept Newton, each winning 4-1 Wednesday. The girls got victories from Fran Murry at No. 2 singles, Logan Bouchillon at No. 3 singles, the No. 1 doubles team of Devon McLaurin and Abby Taylor, and the No. 2 doubles team of Julie Roseberry and Melissa Godwin.

In boys play, Jay Vinson and Levi Lund won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while both doubles teams -- Ronnie Flow and Kevin Blum at No. 1 and Devon Mobley and Darius Lewis at No. 2 -- picked up victories.
