GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Senior Taylor Smith of Mansfield and junior Bryan Fox each shot even 72s for the final day of play at the 2013 Bearcat Invitational, lifting No. 13 Georgia College four slots to take eighth place at the par 72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club on Tuesday.
In the event hosted by Lander University, the Bobcats added a 292 to Monday's rounds of 312 and 307 for a total of 47 over at the frigid course.
Smith, a former Eastside golfer, took 29th after rounds of 78, 76 and 72 to put him at 10-over for the tournament.
Fox had the best finish for the Bobcats coming in 12th among 99 golfers at 6 over, saving his best for last as he carded rounds of 75, 75 and 72. The finish is tops for the Bobcat in his career and also marks Fox's second career top-20 finish.
Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw) shot plus-16 (76-78-78), which was good for 57th. Junior Pontus Andersson had a scoring final round in just the second start of his career, firing a 73 combined with Monday's 83 and 79 for 19-over to end the tournament 71st. Victor Monte owned rounds of 83, 78 and 75 for plus-19 to finish in 74th place.
The Bobcats also sent one individual golfer to the course, as sophomore Ryan Trocchio (Norcross) shot rounds of 78, 73 and 74 for nine-over par in 24th place.
No. 12 Belmont Abbey College took the team title at plus-14 after rounds of 293, 289 and 296, besting the field by just four strokes. No. 3 USC-Aiken shot a round-low 285 Tuesday to tighten the team race and finish four back.
Adam Hedges of BAC took individual medalist honors, blistering the course with rounds of 69, 66 and 71 for 10 under. Mount Olive College's Sebastian Andersen was the only other golfer under par for the three rounds at 2 under.
The Bobcats finished ahead of 10 squads, including Peach Belt Conference foes the University of Montevallo, the University of North Georgia, Lander and Flagler College.
This tournament marks the final regular-season tuneup prior to the PBC Championships April 20-21 in Pine Mountain.
