The streets of Olde Town Conyers will come alive with outsider art, street performers and plenty of food and libations on June 1 when the Hen House 'Tiques and Uniques presents Old Town Conyers Art Fandango, an art show free and open to the public.
Beverly Crutchfield, owner of 'Tiques and Uniques, is the organizer of the show. Crutchfield's business, which features a mix of antiques, folk art and collectibles, used to be located on South Main Street but moved to 921 Center St. in November. Crutchfield said her purpose in heading up the art festival is to lure more shoppers to Olde Town.
"With the summer months here, I just thought Conyers needed a big outdoor activity. Since we hadn't had just an art show in a while, I took it upon myself to get one together," said Crutchfield, who expects 50 vendors to participate.
The art show will run from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Center and Commercial streets will be closed to accommodate the festivities.
Visitors can expect a lively atmosphere with an array of art, such as mixed media, yard art, metal art, folk art, handmade jewelry, bead work, acrylics, oils, bird houses and photography, created by artists from across the state of Georgia and Alabama.
"I'm going to have art of all kinds," Crutchfield said. "It's going to be very artsy; it's not going to be a craft show."
Street performers including a belly dancer and flute player will circulate throughout the festival, and children can participate in art projects presented by the Sketching Pad, an Olde Town art school.
Awake coffee company will offer beverages and food is available from vendors including Mellow Mushroom. Kids will enjoy the snow cones and popcorn.
The Lemon Bee Music Festival, a daylong event featuring several Atlanta area bands, is also being held in the Olde Town Pavilion that day, and Crutchfield is hoping that might boost attendance at the art show.
"The Old Town Conyers Art Fandango will be an exciting place to be on June 1st. We have such a variety of artists, something for everyone including children and pets," Crutchfield. said "We hope everyone comes out to enjoy a day of variety and fun."
