Auto parts stolen in two incidents

CONYERS -- Thieves stole two catalytic converters from trucks at U-Haul Moving & Storage on Dogwood Drive overnight Friday.

An officer with the Conyers Police Department was called to the business Saturday morning where the manager said catalytic converters had been stolen from two U-Haul trucks.

According to the incident report, it appeared that the converters had been cut out with a Sawzall type of tool.

Catalytic converters contain platinum and reportedly can sell for $100 to $200 each.

In a separate incident, the owner of G&R Mufflers and Brakes on Royal Drive reported May 19 that someone had stolen four custom-made chrome rims from a customer's car.

The owner said the red rims were stolen from a 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that had been at the shop for about six months.

The shop owner also said the car's trunk lock had been punched and speakers and other radio equipment had been stolen from the trunk.

Total value of the stolen items was estimated at $2,200.
