Olene Tucker

Mrs. Olene Hill Tucker went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, November 9, 2013. "Miss Olene", as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, was born Martha Olene Hill, oldest daughter of William Leon Hill and Sarah Frances Granade Hill on October 2, 1922. She celebrated her 91st birthday before her passing. She was the widow of Cleveland Brown Tucker who passed away in 1986. They had been married for 44 years. Miss Olene was a hard-working woman all her life. Olene and Brown both worked at Callaway Mills in Milstead, Georgia for a number of years. Over time she worked in several other occupations, the last one being as a cook in Rockdale County School Cafeterias, Pine Street Elementary, Flat Shoals and Shoal Creek. While working there, if she saw a child who was hungry and did not have the money for a meal, she paid for their food out of her pocket. All who knew her well knew of her generosity to others in need. She loved to cook for anybody that appreciated her food. The Brotherhood of Milstead Baptist Church still have fond memories of her fried pies and homemade biscuits with sausage and bacon. Shut-ins and members of her family who were sick would always get one of her homemade cakes or delicious fried pies. Miss Olene loved the Lord and reading the Bible. She also loved her family dearly and she will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, W. Leon and Frances Hill; husband, Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Charlie R. Sr. and Gladys H. Underwood; brother and sister-in-law, James W. and Nancy J. Hill; and one nephew, Charlie R. Underwood Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Anne T. Lewis of Conyers and B. Lynn Tucker of Gainesville; one son, Michael S. Tucker of Snellville. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kathy Lewis Broadnax and her husband David, Carol Lewis Carey all of Social Circle, and Kenneth D. Lewis and Rachel Orlandini of Comer, GA; great-grandchildren, Curtis Broadnax, Lauren Carey, Gracen Lewis, Kyndal Lewis, Kylie Prince, Jordan Orlandini, Lindsey Broadnax, and Kevin and Amy Broadnax; great-great-grandson Brody Broadnax. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and one living uncle, Charles Granade, and good friends that she cherished. She never met a stranger and was loved by all. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Scot Wards Green Meadow Chapel with Charles Lewis and Phillip Dooley officiating; interment will follow at Granade Family Cemetery.
