Rockdale lost its first area volleyball match Tuesday in Snellville.
The Bulldogs fell to Norcross 2-1 after defeating Druid Hills 2-0 in Area 8-AAAAAA play at South Gwinnett High School.
Rockdale (27-7, 5-1) won game one 25-17 before Norcross took leads of 13-5 and 15-6 on its way to a 25-22 victory in game two, then clinched the match with a 25-17 game three victory.
“Game two, I don’t know, Norcross came out determined and we kind of let our guard down, and once we tried to get it back it was too late,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing. “Game three, Norcross had momentum. They took us out of our game, we didn’t do much of anything. One thing we know, we’ll definitely get a chance to play (Norcross) again. We still have to beat them when it counts. I think if nothing else we definitely won’t get overconfident again, it’ll definitely be a learning experience for us.”
Rockdale, which was coming off a runner-up finish at the Collins Hill Classic last weekend, had little trouble with Druid Hills in the first match of the night, winning 25-19 and 25-11.
Heritage split two matches Tuesday, defeating Pinecrest Academy 2-1 before dropping an Area 8-AAAAA match to Apalachee 2-0.
“They were close matches (against Apalachee),” said Heritage coach Julie Kristin. “Apalachee is number one in our region right now, so we played pretty well considering.”
Rockdale, Heritage and Salem will host this weekend’s Harley Davidson Conyers Classic Spike Fest with matches beginning Friday at all three schools.
