Photo detail

Larry Ward, a Rockdale Master Gardener and a member of Citizens of Georgia Power, reaches up for more rattlesnake pole beans during a recent morning harvest. Ward and his wife, Gail Ward, who is also a member of both organizations, have been helping out with the gardening project on the property of Dixie Graphics in Conyers for the past three years. The garden is a partnership between Rockdale Master Gardeners and Citizens of Georgia Power. The goal this year is to harvest 2,000 pounds of vegetables -- to date they have picked more than 1,100 pounds. The food is donated to Rockdale Emergency Relief for distribution through the food bank twice each week. One day last week the food bank was able to provide fresh vegetables to 21 different families.
