Special Photo It may have been a fit of restlessness that led World War II veteran Wilbur Hattendorf and his brother Rich to sign up for the Air Corp. They both wound up as pilots of the newest and hottest American fighter of the day, the twin-engine 360 mph Lockheed P-38 Lightning, armed with four 50-caliber machine guns and one 20mm nose cannon. The Hattendorf brothers are shown here in pilot training.
