CONYERS — The Salem baseball team wrapped up its non-region schedule with a 15-5 victory in six innings over visiting Eagle’s Landing on Friday night.

Starting pitcher Jimmy Gerard got the win for the Seminoles (4-1), surrendering only one earned run in four innings of work. The Golden Eagles took advantage of four Salem errors to add four unearned runs off Gerard.

Jarrett Brown finished up in relief, chalking up five strikeouts in two innings.

“Shaky start. We committed a lot of errors behind Jimmy, who really pitched well again in his second start this season. We settled down and made plays toward the middle to end of the game,” Salem coach Chad Kitchens said. “Jarrett Brown looked good as well on the mound, striking out five in two innings. Thankfully, we continued to hit the ball, which has bailed us out more than once this year. In order to be successful in region play, we are going to have to get better on defense.”

Cameron Gibson had two hits, including a double, and drove in five runs to spark the Seminoles. Levi Bonilla chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Gazzara Mitchell collected two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Gerard also helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs.

Drew Patterson finished the game with three hits.

“We achieved a lot during the non-region portion of our schedule. We found out a lot about our team. We found a few surprises and a few disappointments,” Kitchens said. “Overall, we played really well most of the time. Now, we start the portion of the season that will determine our postseason fate. We will go back to work on Monday and see if we can improve in our weak areas before region starts on Wednesday.”

The Seminoles open Region 8-AAAA play at home Wednesday against Monroe Area at 5:55 p.m. They play at Madison County on Friday.
