Not a bad way to snap a losing streak.
Heritage began its region schedule with a 14-4, five-inning win over Rockdale on Monday, its first win of the season after an 0-4 start.
Billy Abbott drove in four runs, and Cole Peeples and Tyler Austin took advantage of a strong wind blowing out of Rockdale’s brand-new field, each clubbing a three-run home run in a 13-hit barrage off starter Aaron Barfield and lefty J.T. Shaw.
Heritage got to Barfield right away, sending 11 batters to the plate in a six-run first inning. After the bases were loaded on a single, hit batsman and error by shortstop Bernard Thompson, Travis Tarleton walked to force in the first run of the game.
After that, the flood gates opened.
Ryan Cochran followed with a run-scoring single, Abbott doubled in two and Peeples hit a sacrifice fly before Elliot Walker’s double and a single by Ali Sadighi put the visiting Patriots up 6-0.
“We knew they were going to put up some runs. (Barfield) was pounding the zone, (but) it’s definitely a hitter’s park,” Rockdale coach Justin Arrington said.
“(The ball) was jumping, the wind was blowing out,” said Heritage coach Casey Teal, whose team had dropped four non-region games to some of the toughest competition in the Southeast, including defending Class AAA champion Cartersville and East Rowan, a state-ranked team out of North Carolina.
Teal’s club continued its onslaught in a nine-batter fourth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Abbott drilled another two-run double. Peeples followed with a long home run that gave Heritage a 11-2 cushion.
An inning later, Austin, a Kennesaw State commitment, launched a three-run shot off Shaw to make it 14-3.
Barfield allowed 10 earned runs in four innings of work, while Shaw — coming off two scoreless innings against Cedar Shoals last Saturday — surrendered three runs in his only inning of work for the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-1 Region 8-AAAA).
Heritage starter Nick Woodward went the distance on a six-hitter to pick up the win. The right-hander allowed Terrence Hutcherson’s solo home run to lead off the first inning, Chris Sheridan’s RBI double in the third, Thompson’s sacrifice fly in the fourth and left a pitch up to Kevin Dawkins in the fifth that the Rockdale catcher hit for a solo home run.
“(Woodward) gave us a chance every inning,” said Teal.
“They didn’t quit, we kept battling,” Arrington said of his offense. “We got a brand-new game tomorrow. We’ve still got a long way to go.”

Your wrong, if that was the case, he would actually see some p.t.. he talks more game than he can play.
I have been following Austin Jenkins baseball career for a lot of years he has always had an excellent glove, extreme speed, a decent bat and the right attitude. A true diamond in the rough. When given an opportunity he always comes through.
